Restaurant Hoang Oanh: Reviews & Ratings
I came across their store on social media when I was trying to look for Vietnamese food recommendations in Montreal. Our family came for the hot pot but seems like this place is popular in general for other items as well. It’s huge with seats across 2 buildings and was constantly packed with customers both Vietnamese and other ethnicities. For hot pot, it’s all you can eat. The broth is decided - plain with no spicy and tomyum with some kick to it. The veggie, mushrooms, fishballs, carb is available at the display to grab ourselves. And they also provide beef and lamb included in all you can eat on demand. We were greeted with complimentary fried chickens and it was so so good. We quickly went grab other ingredients for our hot pot. And seems like with just 3-4 big groups, it’s also maxing the capacity of their current display. And there were only 2-3 staffs around including the owner to refill. So there are times when the item was empty. Ordering for meat takes some time as well so make sure you ask early on. At the end, we were all going for their black herb jelly and tofu dessert, which were very addictive. Alcohol can be bought by the store next door at street corner. (Which was a culture shock for me that you can just bring your own drink without extra charge like that)
Good service and authenticity is there. We had the bún bò Huế & bún măng vịt & Vietnamese che with longan, dried apples, chick peas, etc.
Restaurant Hoang Oanh in Montreal serves delicious Vietnamese food with authentic flavors. While the presentation could be improved, the taste more than makes up for it. Friendly service, generous portions, and comforting dishes like pho and Bun Bo Hue make this a solid choice for Vietnamese cuisine in the city.
This place is an absolute gem. The prices are affordable and quantity is generous. The staff is really friendly. Simple and spacious seating arrangement. Went with group of 6 and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the food here
Update Went back a second time to try different dishes: Ha Noi Style grilled pork, Duck Salad as a side dish and the newly bamboo chicken soup! Very delicious! ------------ Very good ambiance, very spacious. Walking distance from Jean Talon market. We chose bun bo hue, fried squid and Vietnamese coffees. We will come back for the fondue!!
My partner and I have been three times now and every time the food has been amazing and the service has been lovely! Mme Hang and her son are very kind. The betel leaf wrapped beef with vermicelli is our favourite, but everything is absolutely delicious and the complementary tea served with the meal is a fantastic addition. Their pho is another highlight. We’ll be back for the hotpot buffet! Tax is included in prices which is also nice. Would highly recommend! A fantastic addition to the neighbourhood. Looking forward to being regulars. :)
The best Vietnamese food on the island! Amazing pho, the bún bò huê and beef wrapped in betel leaf are must-tries. Come for the Vietnamese coffee and hot pot, stay for Mrs. Hoang’s contagious smile!
Just had Pho#21 Large. It was marvelous. The flavor, the tenderness of the meat, the chewiness of the noodles! Simply wow. Like Arnold said so well, I'll be back!!

One of the restaurant’s signature draws is its all-you-can-eat hot pot. Diners can choose between a mild, plain broth or a zesty tomyum broth with a pleasant kick. The fresh display offers an array of vegetables, mushrooms, fishballs, and carbs for self-service, while premium ingredients like beef and lamb are available on demand. Complementing the hot pot is a thoughtful gesture from the kitchen—complimentary fried chicken that bursts with flavor and sets a high standard from the very beginning of the meal. To finish, the black herb jelly and tofu desserts offer a sweet and refreshing contrast to the savory dishes, leaving a memorable finale to your meal.
